(AP) - A Naples woman who had her 13-year-old daughter's genitalia pierced to discourage sexual activity has been acquitted of aggravated child abuse. The woman said she wanted to curb her daughter's promiscuity. She also had the girl's head shaved to make her unattractive to boys. The jury said the woman's actions didn't involve malicious intent or cause permanent damage. Defense attorneys said the girl agreed to the piercing. The teen testified that her mother was trying to protect her, but that the piercing hurt her physically, mentally and emotionally. Prosecutors suggested the woman was getting back at her daughter because the teen's sex partners allegedly included the mother's boyfriend. There's a warrant out for him. The person who did the piercing has been sentenced to a year in jail for her role.

Over the last decade more than 40 studies on "job strain" and heart disease and 20 studies on "job strain" and heart disease risk factors have been published throughout the world providing strong evidence that "job strain" is a risk factor for heart disease1. Of the eight studies where an ambulatory (portable) blood pressure monitor was worn during a work day, five showed strong positive associations between "job strain" and blood pressure, while three others provided mixed results. Since ambulatory blood pressure is both more reliable (since there is no observer bias and the number of readings is greatly increased) and more valid (since blood pressure is measured during a person's normal daily activities including work) than casual measures of blood pressure, we feel confident in placing more emphasis on the ambulatory blood pressure results.
