Open Source, Linux Mint is an offshoot of the Ubuntu Base Distribution. The operating system can be customised with a package repository that holds over 23000 programs, inluding source codes. It can be installed alongside windows, There is the need to learn some operating commands, but its handy to find out whats going on behind the screen. I didn't have a clue about Linux a few months ago, but the hardest thing was starting. I installed Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon 7.10, and started to play with some other variants including Ultimate, Ultimate Gamer, and Mint. I was having wso much fun, I burned out my RAM just after Christmas, (It was a Hot Day.) I've found answers to problems through the support communities, and I don't need to look for Programs or applications. The next base Upgrade will be named 8.04 Hardy Heron, and there is an upgrade faculity in the update manager. I thought I'd use Mint as an example .
