Free Children's Picture books online

clipped from drawn.ca

Lookybook is a new site that not only allows you to flip through children’s books in their entirety, but also lets you embed them, YouTube-style, into your own websites. Picture books are for looking at, explains the site:

Lookybook allows you to look at picture books in their entirety—from cover to cover, at your own pace. We know that nothing will replace the magic of reading a book with your child at bedtime, but we aim to replace the overwhelming and frustrating process of finding the right books for parents and their kids.

That, and it’s a great resource for illustrators!

Top 30 Firefox themes

Top 30 Firefox themes

Aluminium Kai 2 Firefox Theme
Don’t particularly like the default theme on Firefox? One good thing about Mozilla’s browser is that you can install a new one, choosing from hundreds with different, original styles. From your top menu bar, just select Tools>Add-ons. When the window pops up select the ‘Themes’ tab and press the ‘get themes’ link at the bottom right of the window. You’ll be taken to a Mozilla page which lists up loads of different themes, organized by category, from retro to animals, sport, modern or more. On Softonic, we’ve selected a few that we particularly like, including the Vista-aero theme, Mostly Crystal and Doodle Plastik.
If you aren’t convinced by these, we suggest taking a look at Mashable’s list of 30 Firefox themes.
I quite like FOXSCAPE, with its Netscape-like interface, iFox Smooth, with its Safari for Mac feel, or Ubuntu Human theme, great for Linux fans.

Show off your photos with the new Slideshow

November 19, 2007

permalink
Take a look at our latest tool for your blog: the Slideshow page element. This feature lets you add a slick little slideshow of your photos from Picasa Web Albums, Flickr, Photobucket, or any site that supports Media RSS.

The photos will show up in your blog’s sidebar, gently fading into one another. Your readers will be able to go forward and backward, pause, and click through to the photo’s web page.

You can also make a slideshow of public photos based on a tag or label.

Like all page elements, Slideshow requires that your blog is using Layouts templates. Still need to switch? Read our help article on the topic.

Firefox Release New 2.0.0.10 November 26, 2007

Improved Tabbed Browsing
Tabbed Browsing screenshot

We love tabs as much as you do, so Firefox 2 will open new web pages in tabs by default. Each of those tabs has its own close button, but don’t worry - if you accidentally close a tab, just go to the History menu to bring it back from the list of “Recently Closed Tabs.” You’ll never be crunched for space anymore, either. When you have too many tabs open to comfortably fit in a single window, scroll arrows will appear on either side, and a button on the right side will always show you an easy-to-read list of all your open tabs.
Spell Checking
Spell Checking screenshot

Sometimes you’re in a rush, and can’t remember if it’s “i” before “e” or the other way around. Firefox 2 has built-in spell checking to keep you from making any mistakes in your blog posts and Web-based email, so you can worry about more important things.

Julia Roy on "A Del.icio.us News Portal"-- Very Smart Idea

clipped from clipper.typepad.com

A Del.icio.us News Portal

Delicious_logo
I always liked Todd Defren's idea of a purpose-built del.icio.us page.  By tagging every URL referencing a particular brand, campaign, event, initiative etc. using del.icio.us, it gives you the opportunity to aggregate all the links online you want people to find in one place.
I have found as a social media tool for outreach and monitoring, it is overwhelmingly valuable and time-efficient.  My first attempt with a purpose-built del.icio.us page was with a client- Fuser.  I tagged every URL to do with Fuser-- from the Fuser Facebook group, to Fuser blog reviews, to the Fuser press release, to the Fuser blog, to the features of Fuser-- it is all tagged and aggregated in one spot.
This serves as a great place to direct journalists, bloggers and users, as well as being a great way to show the client all the media pick-up.  http://del.icio.us/fuser_aggregator

Lost Your Password? Google Can Find It

Forgotten your password? Google can find it for you. Unfortunately

When a Cambridge University team wanted to break a hacker's password, they turned to Google - with startling results. But there's a lesson for you too.
a hacker, apparently Russian, broke into the blog of the Cambridge University security team
the interesting part came later, when the team was clearing up. They could see the user, but what password had he used? All they had was the entry in the MySQL database for the password
He took the hash - 20f1aeb7819d7858684c898d1e98c1bb - from the database and stuck it into Google. Lo and behold, it turned out to be "Anthony".
So: want to check the security of your favourite password(s)? First, use the MD5 hashing page here
if you want to feel safe and have OSX, go to the terminal and type md5 -s mypassword - though use your password, not mypassword.
Second, paste that code into your favourite search engine.
If it returns no results - well done!
for now.

Removed Unwanted Firefox Context Menu Items

Its very simple to use. Try it!

Removed Unwanted Firefox Context Menu Items

clipped from www.liewcf.com

There are many items in Firefox right-click context menu that I do not needed, like Go back, Go Forward, Reload, etc. That’s not a big problem.

But after I have installed a few extensions, the context menu become much longer due to the additional extensions’ commands. It is almost as tall as the height of my screen!

before edit context menu
Super long list of context menu items.

After installed the Menu Editor extension, goto Tools -> Extensions -> Menu Editor, and click “Options” button. A “Preferences for Menu Editor” window will pop up for you to kill hide the unwanted items, as well as rearranging them.

Here is my result of context menu editing:

Slimmed down context menu.
